Proxy access allows parents, family members and carers to access health services on behalf of other people. For example, children, dependants you care for, and relatives.
The proxy will need to have their own online services account (i.e. via the NHS App) and the patient's record will then be linked to the proxy's account.
Proxy access is available for children under 11 years old. From the age of 11, patients are required to give their explicit consent for their record and details to be shared with a proxy.
Online Services accounts are available to patients from the age of 13 years. From 13 years, young people are able to provide their own consent and will be able to register for online services. They could alternatively provide consent for someone else to manage their account, i.e. a parent via proxy access.
A patient of any age, giving consent, may decide to grant access to parts of their online record to a nominated proxy person. This could be as simple as a proxy ordering repeat medications on behalf of the patient.
Proxy access is controlled by the practice and you can request a form to register for proxy access at the surgery.
